ZARIA — The Kaduna State Government will extend the salary improvements agreed with lecturers of Kaduna State University (KASU) to other state-owned tertiary institutions. The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Sani Sambo, announced this while representing Governor Uba Sani at the annual general meeting of the Barewa Old Boys Association in Zaria. He said a nine-member negotiation committee had been set up, the KASU agreement would take effect with the October salary, and talks with the state college of education and polytechnic would follow. Sambo said the state has allocated about 25 per cent of its budget to education in each of the last three years. He said the number of out-of-school children was previously put at more than 500,000, and about 300,000 have since been enrolled, while Almajiri schools are being registered. He added that the state Institute of Vocational Skills Training has trained about 4,050 graduates.
