ABUJA — The Nigeria Police Force has alerted its commands nationwide to possible coordinated terrorist attacks on places of worship, schools, NYSC orientation camps and other vulnerable locations. The wireless message, issued by the Force Headquarters Department of Operations in Abuja and marked 'Treat as Very Important', singled out schools ahead of resumption for the 2026/2027 academic session, citing fears of mass casualties. Areas of concern include the North-East, North-West, North-Central and parts of the South-West. The alert noted the movement of armed elements from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau, and surveillance of possible targets by ISWAP. Commands were directed to intensify patrols, stop-and-search operations and access control, and to work closely with school authorities, religious leaders and NYSC officials. The warning comes after a series of school abductions this year, including the kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Oriire, Oyo State, in May, and of children and a staff member in Borno State in June.
