LAGOS — The Lagos State University (LASU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike with effect from September 15, 2026. The decision was taken at an emergency congress on Tuesday after a 14-day ultimatum to the Lagos State Government expired. In a notice signed by the Steering Committee Secretary, Comrade Thanny Nooem, and Coordinator, Comrade Oluwaseun Babalola, the union said its grievances include salaries, unpaid retirement benefits owed to retired professors and delays in implementing the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement. The union said it had tried to engage the government in good faith, but repeated delays and the absence of concrete action left it with no option. It said the strike will continue until the 2025 agreement is signed, domesticated and fully implemented in the state. Academic activities at the university are expected to be disrupted.
