ADIYAN, OGUN — An 18-year-old Nigerian-German entrepreneur and recording artist, Georgia Oviesu, known as Gia Rei, has opened The Bennie Griffins Academy, a tuition-free school in Adiyan, Ogun State. About 50 children are already enrolled. Pupils receive free tuition, meals, uniforms, socks and learning materials. Oviesu said she was moved to act after seeing children hawking on the streets when they should have been in school. She plans to expand the model to every state in the country. At the launch, some of the pupils shared their ambitions: 10-year-old Qabiya, in Year 1, said she wants to be a doctor, while 11-year-old Bamise Elion, in JSS2, wants to become a surgeon.
