KANO — The Kano State Government has banned the sale and allocation of land within and around public institutions, including schools and hospitals. The Commissioner for Land, Alhaji Abduljabbar Muhammad Umar, announced the ban while inspecting the Women Teachers College (WTC) Girls' Secondary School, where he stopped construction work that had allegedly begun without approval. More than 100 plots had been carved out of the school grounds for the construction of hostels. The commissioner said Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had directed that no land in government institutions should be sold or allocated, and that anyone who violates the directive will face legal action. The Managing Director of KINGIS, Dr Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, who chairs the committee on illegal structures, backed the move. The school principal, Hajiya Uwani Ahmad Balarabe, welcomed the intervention.
