MAIDUGURI — Secondary school students in Borno State have developed a humanoid teaching robot named 'Max Zulum', after Governor Babagana Umara Zulum. The robot was unveiled on Tuesday in Maiduguri at the graduation of the 'Empowering Ideas, Empowering Communities' AI Bootcamp and Data-Analytics Fellowship. The six-month programme was funded by Maxzeeton Technology with support from the Borno State ICT Development Agency (BICTDA), and involved students from six schools. One of the student developers, Al-mustapha Kabir Matazu, said the robot is about 1.2 metres tall, has a screen on its chest, supports two-way voice conversation and runs on a custom AI engine designed for primary-level maths and science. The Managing Director of Maxzeeton, Abdullahi Usman Abbati, said the robot guides learners step by step through difficult maths problems. He added that 100 young people had also been enrolled in a fellowship in data analytics, AI and robotics. The Executive Secretary of BICTDA, Engr Kabir Wanori, promised further training and international exposure for the students.
