Abducted Ogun Polytechnic Students Rescued After Eight Days, Two Suspects Arrested

ABEOKUTA — Seven kidnap victims, including students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade (GAPOSA), Ogun State, have regained their freedom eight days after they were abducted. Gunmen attacked a private hostel on Paraga Road, Ipara-Remo, the previous Wednesday, in an assault that lasted about 30 minutes. The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, said all the victims were rescued alive in two batches early on Thursday with the support of a police helicopter, and that no ransom was paid. Two suspects were arrested. One of the victims was shot during the rescue operation and is now in stable condition. Governor Dapo Abiodun said he asked the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for air support on August 3 and a helicopter was deployed the same day. Abiodun warned that Ogun State would not be a safe haven for kidnappers.
