NEC Committee Recommends Yobe University's Biomedical Research Centre for National Recognition

DAMATURU — The Implementation Monitoring Committee of the National Economic Council (NEC) has recommended the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) of Yobe State University for national recognition. The leader of the delegation, Dr Maina Yaumi, Borno State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, described the centre as one of the best facilities of its kind in Nigeria and Africa. The committee asked the Director of BioRTC, Prof. Mahmoud Bukar Maina, and the university management to prepare a proposal to the NEC through the Yobe State Governor. It said it would document the challenges facing the centre and forward them to the appropriate authorities, and called for increased research funding. The University Librarian, Dr Amina Makintami, received the team on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Muhammad Bashir Tahir. Committee members said the centre's main challenge was visibility rather than infrastructure.
