ASUU Begins Indefinite Strike at Nasarawa State University, Keffi

KEFFI — The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has begun an indefinite strike after receiving approval from the union's National Executive Council. The branch chairman, Comrade Zubairu Abdulmuminu II, described the action as total and comprehensive, covering lectures, postgraduate supervision and external defences. Students have been asked to go home. The union said its members are owed Earned Academic Allowances of more than N2 billion, 25 months of arrears of the 25 and 35 per cent wage awards, arrears of the N35,000 wage award and 11 months of N70,000 minimum wage arrears. It said the FGN-ASUU agreement signed on December 22, 2025, and due to take effect on January 1, 2026, had not been implemented, and that July salaries left a monthly shortfall of about N146 million. According to the union, it met the Commissioner for Education more than five times, the Deputy Governor three times, the last on July 26, as well as the Speaker, the Secretary to the State Government and the Attorney-General, without result. ASUU's NEC approved the strike at its meeting in Abuja on August 8 and 9.
