PORT HARCOURT — Students of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, near Port Harcourt, ran for safety on Tuesday after gunshots were heard on campus during a clash between rival cult groups. The incident happened during the school's Jean Carnival, when members of the KK and Vikings confraternities fought over control of the campus. No one was killed. Sources said both groups allegedly brought in members from outside the university, and that the rivalry on campus has shifted from Vikings against Black Axe to Vikings against KK. An earlier clash between suspected Black Axe and Vikings members on August 12, 2024, left a student in a coma. The Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, confirmed the clash. She said police officers contained the situation without firing, the groups fled, and investigations were continuing.
