ASUU Gives Gombe Government 14 Days to Meet Demands or Face Strike at GSU

GOMBE — The Gombe State University (GSU) branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given the state government a 14-day ultimatum to meet its demands or face a total and indefinite strike. In a statement signed by the branch chairman, Dr Mustapha S. Shehu, and secretary, Dr Aliyu Usman Shelleng, the union said ASUU's National Executive Council had directed it to strike if its grievances were not resolved. The strike would begin on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. The lecturers are demanding payment of the 2021 to 2024 Earned Academic Allowances, arrears of the 25 and 35 per cent wage awards, implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage and arrears of the N30,000 minimum wage. They also want full implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement and upward review of allowances for postgraduate supervision, teaching practice, industrial training, field trips and responsibilities. Shehu said the union had appealed to the government three months earlier, but all efforts at engagement had failed.
