WAEC Defends 2026 WASSCE Results Against Social Media Claims of Glitches

LAGOS — The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has defended the integrity of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination results following criticism on social media. In a statement on Thursday signed by its Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, on behalf of the Head of the Nigeria National Office, Amos Dangut, the council responded to claims of technical glitches, particularly in the computer-based version of the examination. One post on X alleging a glitch had been viewed more than 200,000 times. WAEC said the results went through its usual processes of marking, moderation and auditing, and that the examination was conducted in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education. The council said it welcomed public scrutiny but urged Nigerians to disregard unverified claims. It directed candidates with complaints to its offices and official online channels. WAEC also said cases of malpractice would be handled by a council committee, and candidates would be informed of the outcome through their schools. The council had earlier announced a 61.54 per cent pass rate in five credits including English and Mathematics, with 167,486 results withheld and 116,031 still being processed.
