Kaduna Government Says Only 17 Professors Resigned From KASU Since 2024

KADUNA — The Kaduna State Government has disputed the claim by the Academic Staff Union of Universities that more than 200 lecturers have left Kaduna State University (KASU). The Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Prof. Bello Ayuba, said on Wednesday that 59 academic staff had left the university between January 2024 and now, and that 17 professors and associate professors had left through resignation or transfer. He described staff movement as normal in any university, citing the creation of new universities, retirements and the end of contracts, and called the union's figure mischievous. Ayuba said the government had spent more than N896 million on staff welfare and over N1 billion on liabilities. He also listed N146.4 million released in May 2025 for withheld salaries and SIWES allowances, and a monthly intervention of N50 million. He said the KASU branch of ASUU had not engaged the government on domesticating the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement and urged the union to embrace dialogue.
