UBA, BORNO — Parents of pupils abducted from Mussa in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State held a protest in Uba on Thursday, saying they feel abandoned 98 days after their children were taken. The pupils were abducted on May 15 near the Sambisa Forest. One of the parents, Buba Mussa, told Daily Trust that some parents had been hospitalised from the stress, and that his four-year-old son had marked a birthday in captivity. Parents contrasted their situation with the swift rescue of pupils abducted in Oriire, Oyo State, on the same day. Senator Ali Ndume urged the Theatre Commander, Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, to intensify efforts to rescue the Mussa pupils and students abducted in Lassa. The commander said about 1,000 youths from southern Borno, mostly from Gwoza, would be recruited into the army. UNICEF's Deputy Representative, Dr Rownak Khan, said about 78 children had been affected by the abductions in Lassa and Mussa, and called for full implementation of safe school measures.
