JOS — Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni and the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Kabiru Ibrahim Masari, have each pledged N300 million towards Fortune University, which the Jama'atu Izalatil Bid'ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) is building in Magama Gumau, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The pledges were made on Sunday at a JIBWIS national symposium in Jos. The Chairman of the group's Ulama Council, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, urged those who had made earlier pledges to redeem them, naming Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who pledged N450 million, and Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu, who pledged N300 million. The donations drew reactions from civil society. Umar Ibrahim Umar of War Against Injustice and the Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED) demanded transparency on whether the money is personal or public funds. CHRICED called for an independent investigation, citing the timing of the pledges ahead of the 2027 elections.
