King's College Parents Threaten Legal Action Over Proposed Concession to Old Boys

LAGOS — Parents and staff of King's College, Lagos, have rejected a proposal to concession the federal government-owned school to the King's College Old Boys Association (KCOBA). Hundreds of parents took to the streets of Lagos Island with placards to express their opposition to the plan. The Chairman of the Parents-Teachers Association, Engr. Oluwaleye Peter, said resumption for the new term, scheduled for September 13, would be suspended in protest. He said parents would go to court if the Federal Government remained silent on their concerns, and accused the old boys' association of wanting to turn the school into a source of income. The Old Boys Association and the Federal Ministry of Education had not publicly responded to the protest at the time of reporting. King's College is one of the oldest and best-known secondary schools in the country, and the dispute has drawn wide attention among parents of students in Unity Colleges.
