KADUNA — The management of Kaduna State University (KASU) has appealed to the local branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to suspend its ongoing warning strike and give dialogue a chance. In a statement signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, the university said Governor Uba Sani, who is the Visitor to the institution, had constituted a nine-member committee to look into the union's demands. The committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo, and has one month to submit its recommendations. Management said the state government was already taking concrete steps to resolve the issues raised by lecturers and asked the union to allow the process to run its course. The statement acknowledged the anxiety the strike has caused students and parents, as well as the disruption to the academic calendar. It promised continued engagement with all staff unions and a focus on the welfare of both staff and students. The university also appealed to students and parents to remain patient while efforts continue to restore normal academic activities. The strike follows weeks of disagreement between the union and the state government over pay, the implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement and claims of staff departures.
