Ondo Approves N500m Housing and Vehicle Loan Fund for Public Servants

AKURE — The Ondo State Government has approved an additional N500 million seed fund to support housing and vehicle loans for public servants in the state. The Head of Service, Segun Odusanya, announced this at a press briefing at the Cocoa Conference Hall, Governor's Office, Akure, ahead of the 2026 Public Service Week. He said about 6,000 workers have been recruited into the state public service since 2024, mainly in the health, education, justice, works and forestry sectors. According to Odusanya, the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has also reviewed loan ceilings and the Duty Tour Allowance for workers. Salaries and allowances, including leave bonuses, are being paid, while gratuity arrears owed to state and local government pensioners are being cleared gradually. He added that all workers due for promotion in the 2026 cycle have received their letters, preparations for the 2027 exercise are under way, and appointments of Permanent Secretaries are continuing. The Head of Service asked government to provide affordable mass transit for workers, such as CNG-powered buses, and to build low-cost housing estates with a transparent allocation process. He reminded civil servants that improved welfare must go hand in hand with discipline, integrity, accountability and productivity. Eligible public servants interested in the housing and vehicle loans are advised to contact their ministries, departments and agencies for details on how to apply.
