ABUJA — The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of failing to protect Nigerians from killings and abductions, describing the government's response to insecurity as a mix of incompetence and indifference. In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the party listed Kwara, Niger, Benue, Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, Borno, Plateau and Yobe among the states where communities continue to suffer attacks. The PRP said the ruling All Progressives Congress had too often answered violence with press releases and assurances rather than measures that improve security on the ground. The party expressed concern for soldiers it described as overstretched and for local volunteers who have joined the fight against armed groups, as well as for the damage insecurity is doing to livelihoods and the wider economy. It also alleged that too much public money was being spent on buying political support, although it did not provide evidence for the claim. According to the statement, Nigerians should not wait until the administration's term ends in May 2027 before demanding better security. Baba-Ahmed said the President had four months left before what he described as an electoral defeat, and urged him to honour his oath of office by taking responsibility and acting urgently to protect citizens. The statement adds to growing political debate over security as parties prepare for the general elections in January.
